With a respectful nod to Steve Hopkins' "I Cry" as an inspiration (I even stole some!). Thank you, Dad.

I Cry, Peaceful Reprise

- by Cary Hopkins Eyles

Darkness and dust settles
And
When I look out
I cry.

Loss of moms and dads
Loss of friends and lovers
Loss of security

I look to the future
And
Fear the power
We wield.

Violence
Nationalism
Patriotism
Fanaticism
Us – Them

Loss of life
Loss of liberty
Loss of humanity

'Collateral damage'
Too avoidable
Too horrible to imagine
And when I do
I
Cry.
