Paradise

Even as we three ate on $25 a week
Pasta every night, canned veggies a treat
I lived in a paradise
I had food

Even as the pilot light went out
And we slept around the barely warm heater
I lived in paradise
I had warmth

Even as we struggled and went further into debt
Paid bills with the credit card, barely paid the credit card bill
I lived in paradise
I had opportunity

Even as friends came and went
And stress caused fights
I lived in paradise
I had love

Even as I fight for peace and truth and freedom
And it seems the world delights in war
I live in paradise
I have the fight in me.
