In It

In It

When you're in it
You are a world away.
Now means more
Than ever before.
Then means less,
But acquires more meaning.
Somehow, somewhere along the now,
In the midst of war,
You pass into manhood,
Not knowing or caring how.
Now that you're in it,
You are a world away,
And the longer you stay the more
Unreal the real world seems,
And the longer the war is waged the more
You know the meaning of peace
When you're in it.
