Johnny Miller- Having just turned thirteen last month, Johnny’s taking on new responsibilities while trying to balance his Grade ‘A’ school work and his secret crush on Sarah Reeds.

Josephine Hatchett- A disgruntled preteen, Josephine is more of a rebel than a child. She may not be a cut-throat kind of girl, but she has an attitude that’s gotten her into plenty of trouble. She never really talks since she isn’t much of a social person. Her parents have been trying without success to bring her back into a more social life, eventually discouraging and just letting her live her life.

George Greggory- A smart, witty, handsome young man to himself, a nerd to everyone else. George lives the life of an average straight ‘A’ student with the potential to become a computer programmer. Soon he finds himself in darkness, no one by his side- just his computer, a hacking program, and an internet connection. What’s a boy to do?

Blade Radion- Your everyday showoff, Blade has nothing better to do than grab the spotlight and show everybody his moves. No one pays much attention to him anymore, so it doesn’t really matter. As long as he’s happy, it’s all OK, because he can be incredibly forceful when he wants to be.

Blake Nevican- Blake is a pretty average kid. He lives an average life. He gets average grades. He listens to average music. The only real flare in his life is his speed. His one hobby is running, and luckily, he’s good at it. He’s the fastest kid in the school by far, and he gets faster everyday. His hair is kind of strange though…..he dyed it about a month ago, and now the color is starting to fade out. It used to be a vibrant Red, now it’s some sort of…….brown…….red?……..bronze? Who knows?

Chapter 1

Nineveh woke up that morning feeling strangely refreshed. Being a depressed teenager that was something that didn’t happen often. She slid her feet off the bed and sat on the side looking at the floor until her mother called her down. She got dressed, putting on her light blue bellbottoms and a pink shirt. She opened the frame to the last remaining picture of her parents and pulled out the poem they’d left her. Although she never really understood what it meant, she never tried to figure it out. A few words were unreadable on the note, and one hadn’t been completely written. She looked at it for a moment, but was shocked back into reality by her alarm clock. She had forgotten to turn it off. Nineveh leaped at it and turned it off, hitting her elbow on the side of the bed in the process.

She walked slowly downstairs, taking her time since it was Saturday, but quickly enough so that she could eat breakfast and get out.

“Jeez, took ya long enough.” Nineveh’s mother scowled at her.

“Whatever.” Nineveh shrugged it off and sat down at the table. Her mother put down a bowl of cereal, and she started eating.

“When’s your project due?” Her mother asked Nineveh questionably.

“Doesn’t matter, I’m done.” Replied Nineveh irritably. She finished her cereal and walked out the door, saying goodbye to her mother and getting a grunt in return. Walking down the street, she found that no one else was out. Annoyed that her friends weren’t up yet, she started to turn around when she heard a noise. Looking behind her, she found nothing but a page from today’s newspaper floating at her. She grabbed it before it blew into her, and looked at it for a minute. It was the sports page, with a half section of weather saying the time’s when the sun would rise and set. She skimmed most of the sports section and dropped the paper while continuing down the street.

“Hey.” Came a voice to her left. She turned and Josephine stepped out from the shadows. She was dressed from head to toe in black, not really a good fashion for s bright, sunny day. Nineveh nodded at her and she walked over.

“What are you doin’ out in the sunlight?” Nineveh questioned in a sarcastic tone.

“Shut up.” Josephine replied. “I’m just out to get away from this place for a little while.” She insisted.

“Ok, ok.” Nineveh put her two hands out in front of her to show she understood. They continued to walk down the street for awhile in silence until Josephine spoke.

“Where you goin’?” asked Josephine tiredly.

“Eagle Market, wanna come?” asked Nineveh with a tint of hopefulness in her voice.

“Sure, got nothin’ better to do.” Replied Josephine. They crossed the street at the corner of Chandler and Lovel street and walked into the store.

“Morning Ms. Reeds.” Greeted the store clerk.

“Mornin’” replied Nineveh. While Josephine browsed, Nineveh went into the back and picked up a can of Pringles. She brought them up to the counter and took out a five dollar bill.

“That’s……………..a dollar and……ninety nine cents.” Said the store clerk. She handed him the money and he handed her her change.

“Josephine!” hollered Nineveh.

“What?!” yelled Josephine, annoyed.

“C’mon, let’s go!”

“Hold on a minute, God!” Nineveh smiled at the clerk, and he gave her a pitiful smile back. Josephine came out from isle 5 and gave the clerk the things she wanted; mainly make up.

She paid the clerk the money, all ten dollars and eighty-eight cents of it, and they left. Walking home, Nineveh heard a strange voice behind her.

“Hah hah, good one Jo.” Said Nineveh sarcastically.

“What? I……..what?” Josephine answered in a surprised tone. Assuming that it must have been her imagination, Nineveh shrugged it off and they kept on.
