Frozen Sea
.
A book must be an axe for the frozen sea inside of us.
.
It's fitting that I sit here in Trolley Park this afternoon feeling a king of plaintive
happiness as the children stir the dervish in their Razor scooters. This epigram recalls
a lost story, a nostalgic work in which I'd retrieved a piece of my own childhood. The
connection comes with having bought some lucent lemons from Vons a few hours ago. Then
add the laughter, the family dog, and the winter sunlight and I'm brought back to my days
of jovial agility. Those days on the Paganini's lawn where the Berry sisters, the Keslik
sister's and Aaron had me in a pickle. The frozen sea is parted to these recollections.
