Listen carefully. Do you hear the ocean?
The ocean, enormous with secrets both
Listen again, and think of how even the ocean

Do you hear it moving toward the shore?
Listen carefully, and you can almost see
How the shell might put you on the shore
As the waves rush and crash and spread –
Find your feet on the warm sand, and
Welcome you with a cool, eternal truth.
Beautiful and tragic, bows to you in this
Moment, humbles itself to the sand to caress
Your bare feet, leaving a salty mist of silver
Freshness. Standing here on the shore, the
Immensity of the ocean calls both to one’s fears
Of its vast unknown and to the delight of its
Brilliant depth as a universal jewel of water.
Of rage can rush to the rhythmic hush, a kind of
Cosmic lullaby already calling for resolution,
For peace in the night of winds and rain.
Always carry the shell with you, the ocean always
Whispers to you a message of powerful peacefulness, of
Resilient tranquility. I have brought you its message
Because you are the one, Tanya, who has truly taught me
To listen and learn from the ocean. For your heart has been
Confiding in me all this time. From our beginning, the calm
Yet passionate mantra of your heart has kept me on the shore,
Has kept me enthralled with the ocean that is our future.
And while I stand before the unknown, I’m not afraid for
I know and feel the waves of thoughts and emotions confirming
The eternity of this, our enormous jewel of love, friendship and adventure.
