Chapter 3

“We’ve got to figure out who this is, someone could get killed!” exclaimed Josephine.

“It’s getting late though, it’s 4:00. My mom’s gonna call me in for dinner soon.” Explained Johnny in a nervous voice. Off in the distance came a faint voice. “Yep, I knew it. That’ll be my mom.”

“Alright , see ya.” Said Josephine.

That Night

“Errrrr…………my teacher gives too much homework.” Thought George. “It’s already six o’ clock and I haven’t even done the Social Studies!” He could hear his parents sleeping in the room downstairs, so he figured they wouldn’t mind if he got something to eat. “Jeez, they sleep early.” He thought. He stood up from his sitting place in the corner of his room, when suddenly there was a knock on the door. “Hello?” George asked. No answer. “Hello?!” he was beginning to panick, since he could still hear two sets of snores downstairs. After a few moments the knocking stopped and George decided not to leave his room. He sat back down by his desk and began formulating the circumference of a cylinder. Suddenly George’s ears picked up footsteps from far away. The only reason he could hear them was because of the creaking of the floorboards. Nervous again, George closed his eyes. The door creaked open. A faint light from the hallway illuminated a shadow of a person in the doorway. George squealed slightly, and shut his eyes tightly. “Not there, not there, not there!” he chanted under his breath. A cold hand touched his shoulder.

“Hello George………”

“GUYS!” screamed Nineveh, running out into the street the next morning. The others were already out there.

“What?! What?!” the two of them asked simultaneously.

“Ge……..George is dead!” she managed to sputter.

“WHAT?!” yelled Johnny in absolute horror.

“Dead! He was murdered last night! No evidence!” continued Nineveh.

“Oh god, oh……………..” Josephine was hyperventilating.

“Calm down guys, we can find out who….” Nineveh began

“What do we look like, Hardy Boys?!” roared Josephine.

“No, she’s right. We have to find out who did this before they come again.” Agreed Johnny. Still hyperventilating, Josephine caught her breathe.

“Ok, but don’t pull any of that ‘Babysitters Club’ bull on me, got it?” demanded Josephine.

“Watch it,” warned Nineveh. “now let’s go.”

They split up, each of them taking the kids first, then the adults, finding all their alibi’s and writing them on paper, with signatures for proof that they ever said that. When the three of them joined together again, they had a list pretty much taller than the three of them combined. After about an hour of narrowing the suspects due to circumstantial evidence and witnesses, they had three primary suspects, all of which they had seen the day before.

“Aight,” began Josephine. “I got BlakeNevican, he says he was watching the sunset with his girlfriend from 6:00pm to 6:07pm.” She continued. “Don’t make me sick.”

“I,” began Nineveh. “covered Blade Radion, who says he was inside watching the football game from 6:00 to 8:00. Did you guys see that, the P….”

“Yeah yeah.” interrupted Johnny. “Ok, I got Mr. Smalley, who says he was out grocery shopping from 6:00pm to around 7:30pm.” He said. After near three hours of pondering the alibi’s, Nineveh stood up.

“What?” asked Johnny, excited. Nineveh walked around Johnny’s house and through the back yard. When she came back, she had a newspaper in her hand. Holding it up to the two others, they couldn’t understand it.

“It’s the weather,” said Johnny boringly.

“Look again, at the time the su……” Nineveh started. A gunshot rang through the air, striking a tree nearby and missing Nineveh’s ear by a fraction of an inch. Ducking for cover, Nineveh made her explanation quick.

Can you figure out who the murderer is?

Was it:

Blade
Blake
George
Mr.Smalley
