Monumental Folly

Monumental Folly

After the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
In Washington, D.C., November 1982

Only the dead of the war

Are bigger fools than we

That is why the monument

Is there for all to

TOUCH

The cold black stone

The void of deep regret

Except when flowers and medals are thrown

When survivors, warriors and wounds are shown

Except when we

TOUCH

The cold black stone

And each other

Way down deep inside our bones

Between dust to dust

Until we die

We will always wonder

WHY
