Permutations

Comrades,

May I submit to you this humble
imagist poem touching on the dynamic
flavor of jazz--Mingus, Davis, Monk, Chico Hamilton, et al.
Listen Carefully to the sound of the world,
an orchestra of natural passion turning through
the day as the sunlight melts over the diaphanous cloud;
a gust, a beat, a breath from the swans wing.

Permutations - a jazz bass

of visceral paws
the nocturnal panther
taps out telepathic
table settings
within a
living
room of shadows, shapeless
in the jungle habitat
of breathless hostilities

epileptic fingers
conceived in dormant rhapsodies
as the
croaking
of fatal frog throats
are suffocated
in the bellies of brass snakes
