And I do not refuse to see or acknowledge what bad things my or any other country might have been or are involved in. Also I am able to accept that even the "evil ones" CAN accomplish some positive things. And I accept that different counties, including my own, can have both good or bad things going for them depending on circumstances and history.
Because I believe in this retribution doesn’t mean I don’t acknowledge wrong doings. At no time have I ever said we’re squeaky clean in any of our foreign dealings. Everyone makes mistakes and certainly governments are all about mistakes. It’s the nature of the beast. I have never advocated anything but taking out the idiots who thought they could do this act of horror and get away with it. I feel pretty certain that bin ladin thought we’d hoot and holler and let it go away. LOL. What a surprise it must have been for him to have lost his entire organization because of his arrogance and stupidity. What a surprise I’m sure he’s going to feel (if not already) when he dies in some mud hut or cave because he thought he knew it all.
I also do not judge civilization based on the common concepts of "standards of living" in the meaning that the more things you can afford to fill your house with, the higher it is.
Standard of living is not measured that way by anyone I know, Jerre. You seem to have a mistaken idea of what people in this country think. I guess you’re not so well traveled after all. Standard of living means clean water and food. A warm place to sleep and the comfort and safety that means. It means decent medical care. A chance to work a decent job. A good education. That’s what standard of living means, Jerre. And all the do gooders and socialists in this country get to enjoy those benefits while bad mouthing them all they want because this is America and that’s called FREEDOM.
And I think that if the world would live by your and Travolta´s "Swordfish"-theory we would be in the deepest trouble that I can imagine. Such philosophy was very popular with the Nazis! Kill one of our SS-men and we will execute 100 of you. Or maybe 1000? Die Übermenschen thought of themselves as worth immensly more than all others. Your statement "who cares what the rest of the world thinks" also is nicely in line with Nazi ideology.
Kind of true but much different in it’s philosophy. It’s not based on wiping out a nationality or race or religion. Just terror. When and where the SS did those horrendous things the killing of their men stopped. The SS actually did think of themselves as worth more than others. That also would not be the case in the “Swordfish” theory. It would be merely that our people are worth as much and should be left alone.
If your views are those embraced by most Americans, then I think you would do the world a favor by doing nothing at all! I think we can survive without US soldiers all over the world to "police" us.
As I’ve said I wish we would pull in our horns and let the rest of the world thrash it out.
Btw, I don´t "whine" about or defend Saddam, Talibans or any other bad guy! If you open your eyes and read my words I only in the humblest way possible point out that those guys might NOT be the ideal people to help grab power!! If you have a different opinion, then say so clearly if you can manage to leave some chauvinism and xenophobia out of the discussion and cut out a bit of the selfrighteous rambling. I´d really appreciate if you´d adress issues and argue facts based on what I write.
I try, Jerre, I really, really try. It’s hard when you list so many US instigated atrocities on the one hand and then list our shortcomings in dealing with them on the other. The balance sheet teeters this way and then that. I find it difficult also when you only address your own issues and rarely ever deal with any of the facts or questions I present to you. Your facts are often overstated or assuming. Your numbers are never current. You are a political idealist and that is an oxymoron in itself. You have never laid blame where it actually belongs because no matter what the issue, it’s always our fault.

No Steve, I don´t stutter. And I try to adress the issues, analysing facts, reasons and results and take all relevant factors into account impartial to what country and which persons are involved.
As far as being impartial, I believe it’s a lot easier when it’s not your citizens dying or your cities being attacked, huh, Jerre. We were restrained. Now we’re not. We had no reason to bomb Afghanistan, now we do. Where’s the question, Jerre? Would your government stand around with their thumbs in their butts if you lost the center of Stockholm and 3000 people to some nut case with a few followers?
The relevant factors here are we were attacked. We retaliated. Ooops! There is nothing really more relevant than that. Who, what, where, when can’t be separated because you have no vested interest in an issue. It is important who bombed the WTC buildings. It is important what happened then and what happened afterward. It is important where the people who did it are and when we get them it will be important to them as well as all Americans.
I’m really sorry that there are countries that have gladly taken our money and other help and then decided when it was time to pay up that they didn’t like the rules of the game or couldn’t actually keep up with the big boys.
No one, anywhere, anytime or for any reason has a right to do what they did. Now it’s time to pay for their foolishness.
I will address your statements line by line if you wish. You seem to have the gift of skipping over things that might actually deflate your arguments. I’m not blind and I’m certainly not impartial. I have a sense of country, patriotism, freedom and reality that you seem not to have. I believe in this particular action. People who commit crimes should pay according to their offense. Regardless of whether or not it becomes international.
And if the devil did read the Bible he’d read “an eye for an eye”!
